Inishmaan (Inis Meáin) is the central of the three Aran Islands.

Inishmaan (Inis Meáin) is the most unspoiled and tranquil of the Aran Islands — a place where Ireland’s ancient soul still thrives. Seen from above, the island reveals a mesmerising landscape of endless limestone walls, rolling green fields, and dramatic Atlantic cliffs.

Small white airplanes are parked on an airport tarmac near a modern white building, with several cars in the parking lot and a cloudy sky overhead.
A small white tower sits atop the green, grassy Cliffs of Moher, overlooking the dark waters and dramatic rocky coastline below, under a clear sky.

Inis Meáin Knitting Company

Aran Sweaters

At the heart of the island’s community is the renowned Inis Meáin Knitting Company. Established in 1976, this family-run enterprise employs local artisans to craft high-quality knitwear using luxury fibres. As a result, each piece — bearing the symbol of the upturned currach — reflects the island’s maritime heritage and is exported worldwide.

Under the leadership of Ruairí and Marie-Thérèse de Blacam, the company has since expanded its global reach while preserving those traditional techniques.
